We are ready to go.
Some of our paper cranes bound for Hiroshima. |
On 5 am on Wednesday, March 11 ten students, our principal Jesse Witte and me (Brad Wilson) will leave Kwalikum Secondary by school bus for the Nanaimo ferry and from there on to Vancouver and the airport. There are two main parts to our trip: the homestay / school visit and our self guided tour. (Our itinerary is pasted below)
Over the last four years we have developed a good relationship with Aichi Keisei High School in Aichi Prefecture. Aichi Keisei visits Kwalikum Secondary School every spring with about 60 students for a four day school visit and homestay experience. We have always enjoyed their visits and they invited us to visit their school which we did for the first time in 2014. Our students had a great experience visiting their school and living with Japanese families for four days. We were treated with great respect and kindness and given a wonderful introduction to Japanese culture in the school and in the home. Because of that visit and our subsequent successful tour of Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima, we decided after our return to Qualicum Beach to organize another visit. For the past year our students have been busy fundraising, and studying Japanese language and culture. Finally our departure is only a few days away and we are ready to go. I will continue to post blogs as we have our adventure.
